The exception would be a launch platform on top of mons olympus, which is actually outside the atmosphere at its peak, so you get to totally skip the atmospheric drag and launch with ion engines.
Something my Seargent told me to help differentiate orbitals, planes blink/flash (by law), stars move with the sky and twinkle(because of distance and atmosphere), but man made satellites move like a bat out of hell and don't blink/flash.
Planes have lights on them for visibility, satellites are reflecting the sun because they are high enough to reflect sunlight.
Even though the Earth's surface is in darkness, the sun is always out there.
